Native bees prefer open land that has sun exposure. Medium ground cover is preferred, with a mix of low grasses or shrubs.
(Implementation details: Our base GIS data for this step are land cover, land use, and boundaries. Land cover is used to find non-forested land as well as the border with forested land. Non-forested land is extended 20 feet into the forest, as this is edge is exceptional native bee habitat. Boundaries and land use layers, like houses and roads, are removed as they cannot support bee habitat. The remaining area is defined as "open land")
